Leisure activities

Caves

The Dordogne and the Lot are home to some of the most beautiful prehistoric and stalactite caves. Some 60 kilometres from us, near the village of Les-Eyzies-de-Tayac, is the epicentre of prehistory. Here, within a stone's throw of each other, there are several famous and impressive caves. Admire ancient wall paintings in Grotte de Font-de-Gaume, Grotte de Rouffignac or Grottes des Combarelles. Or let yourself be enchanted by the wonderful and whimsical crystallisations in the "mineral forest" of Grotte du Grand Roc.

Lascaux, the most famous cave with prehistoric drawings, is about 80 kilometres from us.

Parc-en-Ciel

9 kilometres from us, near the village of Lacapelle-Biron, you can take an adventure trail high in the trees. There are eight different courses with increasing difficulty so it is accessible to all ages and all levels. There are also lots of other activities: you can play mini-golf, disc golf, "free jumping" and swim in a natural and organic swimming pool. There is a snack bar, but you can also picnic on site. All info and rates can be found at www.parc-en-ciel.com.

Château de Bridoire

The Château de Bridoire is a 15th-century monument located amid the Monbazillac vineyard, some 40 kilometres from us. Inside the castle, some 15 rooms were completely restored and redecorated, just as they were in the past. Inside and outside, 100 old-fashioned games were carefully recreated: a life-size game of geese, tug of war, crossbow shooting, ski races, a knight's tent to try on medieval armour and helmets, calligraphy with a quill, etc. You can admire Bridoire's horses and ponies in their 19th-century stables. All info and rates can be found at www.chateaudebridoire.com.

Vineyards

The vineyards of the Dordogne and the Lot-et-Garonne are among the oldest in France. Together, they produce no fewer than 19 AOC wines (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée), including the famous Monbazillac, Côtes de Bergerac, Côtes de Duras, Armagnac, etc. The Château de Monbazillac, with its vineyards around it, is about 40 kilometres from us and provides a fun and informative trail in and around the castle, ending with a wine tasting. Find more information at www.chateau-monbazillac.com. Besides the renowned wineries, there are of course many other small-scale producers. At Domaine de la Tuque, just 10 kilometres from us and close to Biron Castle, some delicious organic wines are grown.
